Welcome to Asgard, home of the divine dachshunds. We are completely devoted to our four-legged companions. Here, our dogs don't think they are people. They think they are gods. And we worship the ground their paws walk on! Luckily for us, they are kind rulers. |
Our Goal We are a small family-run long haired dachshund breeder with the goal of bettering the breed. We strive to breed the very best dachshunds possible. We produce puppies that are exceptionally healthy, conform to the breed standard and have wonderful temperaments. We have many coat colors including English Creams, Blues, Chocolates, Isabellas (Fawn), Reds, and Black and Tans. We also have Dapples, Piebalds, and Brindles, on occasion. We raise long-haired dachshunds here and nothing else. We don't crossbreed or mate long-hairs with smooth coats or wires. So whether you are looking for a show dog or a family pet, contact us today to find your perfect match. If we don't have what you are looking for right now, check with us anyway. You never know what we may have planned for future litters. We may also know the right breeder to refer you to if we can't help you personally. Give us a call or send an email. We always love to talk Doxies!! |
Dachshund History
There is some debate regarding the origins of Dachsunds. Stone etchings and statues, thousands of years old and bearing a striking resemblance to the modern day Dachshund, have been found in and around Egypt, Central America, South America, and China. Additionally, remains of Dachshund-like canines have been found among ancient Roman settlements in Germany.
Some Dachshund historians hypothesize that Dachshunds are the descendants of the now-extinct St. Hubert Hound. This breed, named for its originator St. Hubert(656 to 727 C.E.), was known for its excellent scenting abilities and long, low body.
Most people agree that the Dachshunds we know and love today were developed through selective breeding in Germany by farmers and hunters in the 1500's to "go to ground" and sniff out rodents and, of course, badgers. The name, Dachs-hund, translates to badger dog.
Wherever they originated and whomever is responsible for the selective breeding required to develop such a unique dog, I am eternally grateful. I cannot imagine my life without these amazing creatures that bless me every day with their devotion and unconditional love.
